Tim Peake doesn't have the British monopoly on going to Space, provided you have a good imagination. We visited the National Space Centre in Leicester recently, where we explored their exhibitions, gazed up at the actual rockets protected by their 'bubbly gherkin' tower, took a trip around the Solar System and into the galaxies beyond. What's really great here is the hands on interactivity of the exhibitions, although those who like to read everything can also read everything, with some pretty in depth information given.
We met up with friends for lunch in the café and the kids delighted in pressing the button to make the rocket 'launch' - filling the room with dry ice and the excitement of space exploration. We didn't go in the planetarium or the motion ride on this visit, however there are both of these things and the presentations on offer sounded fun.
The National Space Centre is not the sort of place where exhibitions change regularly, but I'm sure we'll visit again. We didn't see much of Leicester, staying on the outskirts on this trip, so I'm wondering what else the city has to offer. We did drive past the nearby Cofresh factory, where some of my favourite spicy snacks are made. Wonder if they do tours?
